2024 Habitat "Community Build-a-thon!"


Event Registration

 

Habitat for Humanity NCI is building more houses than ever this year, and needs your help!  We're hosting the “Community Build-a-thon” again with the goal of raising money to provide safe and affordable housing for local families in need throughout north Iowa.  It will also support local restaurants and businesses in the area with the purchase of prizes.

Let your creativity run wild and build your own mini "house" or "village" out of any materials you choose - such as office supplies, legos, craft items, household materials, or even food... the possiblities are endless!   

It's a great activity to have fun with your coworkers, family, church group - or just anyone who want to use their imagination to help out a good cause, all are welcome!

 

HOW DOES IT WORK?  

IT'S AS EASY AS 1-2-3! 

1- Register your team below for only $30.

2- Follow the link emailed after your registration to create your easy personalized fundraising page that can be shared with friends, coworkers, and family through email, text, or social media in order to raise much needed funds to support Habitat's critical local housing programs. 

3- Start building your creations!  Participants will have until June10th to design, build, and share pictures of their house or village.

  • Whoever else wants to!

 

WHAT MATERIALS CAN I USE?

  • Household materials
  • Craft supplies
  • Recyclables
  • Scrap metal or wood
  • Edible items
  • Small construction materials
  • Office supplies
  • Whatever else you wish - use your imagination!

 

PRIZES!!

Teams will be eligible to receive prizes if they win an award, and based on the total amount they’ve raised through their online Peer-to-Peer pages.

All registered teams will receive a handwritten thank you card from a Partner Family, Homeowner, or Volunteer and three T-shirts. (Additional shirts available for purchase for $10 each.)

 

PEER-TO-PEER FUNDRAISING PAGES

Share a photo of your team, a story about why you are raising funds for Habitat for Humanity of North Central Iowa and update your page with pictures of your house building progress. All teams must have a team fundraising goal.

 

JUDGE AWARDS

Awards will be given to teams that the judges choose as winners in each of the following categories:

  • Most Original
  • Most Detailed
  • Most Unique Materials Used
  • Most Edible
  • Most Durable
  • Largest House
  • Smallest House
  • Best of Show / "Best in the Neighborhood!"

* There will be an additional "Youth Category" available for each award if 50% or more was built by a child under 12 years old.

 

ADDITIONAL AWARDS

  • Legacy Award – Given to the team who raises the most money.
  • People’s Choice Award – This award will be given to the team with the most “Likes" in the Completed Houses Album on the HFHNCI Facebook Page.  For a vote to count, individuals must first "Like" the HFHNCI page, then "Like" their favorite team's house.

 

WINNERS

All teams will be required to share their final house photos and videos through email to buildathon@habitatnci.org by Friday, June 10th. Our team of judges will then begin the review process, and announcements of the winners will be made at our 30th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, June 15th!

 

TIMELINE

April 15th       Registration opens, and the home building begins!  (A $30 non-refundable registration fee is required.)

May 24th       Teams must be registered and fundraising pages completed and shared through social media, text,or email.

June 10th        5-10 photos of the house building progress, materials, and finished home are due along with a 1- minute video introducing your team to the judges emailed to buildathon@habitatnci.org.

June 15th     Winners will be announced at our 30th Anniversary celebration, on the radio and through social media!

 

IMPORTANT TEAM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A $30 entry fee is required to participate in the competition.
  • An individual fundraising page must be created (a link will be included in the registration confirmation email along with the easy instructions).
  • Each team should record a 1-minute video to introduce their entry along with 5-10 photos of the materials used, building process, and finished house due by June 10th to buildathon@habitatnci.org. 
  • Teams should raise a minimum of $50 to be eligible for prizes.

We've designed this special event to let your creativity shine and bring some joy to your home or office. Your support will help us to fulfill the Habitat mission to provide safe and affordable homes all year round, as well as support area restaurants and businesses. Thank you for joining us!
